Songster Leader Nicola Hills
Founded at the turn of the century, the Reading Central Songster Brigade is in its 106th year of continuous service. Throughout that time the brigade has maintained excellent numbers and has travelled to many Army centres in the United Kingdom in addition to visiting churches and other groups in its own area.
In recent years the brigade has campaigned in Belfast, Edinburgh, Bristol and Cambridge, among others. Last year the brigade was privileged to present a mid-week programme at the Army's New Horizons event at Pontins and to sing at Divisional Councils.
The songsters presently number around 50 voices, and a wide variety of backgrounds and occupations are reflected in the personnel, including housewives, students, company directors, financial consultants and college lecturers - with ages ranging from 16 to 67.
Nicky Hills has been leader of the brigade since July 2002.
