The Singing Company is the newest of the four musical sections and its origins are not well documented. Nevertheless, the present day section has established a very valuable role in the life of the Corps. In addition to providing music regularly in the Sunday Set and in the two Meetings each Sunday, the Singing Company visit other churches and homes for the elderly.
This junior section was the first in the Reading Central Corps to venture into the recording studio to join with the Maidenhead and Staines Singing Companies to record 4 tracks on the Christmas compact disc Joy to the World. The same three singing companies also appeared together at the Westminster Central Hall in 1991 when the recording was released.
The Singing Company consists of 23 young Christians whose ages range between 7 and 16. The leader is Karen Smith who has held the position since 1996 and is supported by Helen Fisher, Andrew Wicker (Pianist) and Heather Early (Sergeant and Timbrel Group Leader).
The Singing Company has visited Tunbridge Wells, Enfield and Eastbourne, and more locally featured at a Garden Party in Wokingham. The Singing Company presented a musical with all the Young People at Reading Central - Christmas 2001, and this year will feature at the Civic Carol Concert 2002 at the Hexagon in Reading.
